STAFF PROFILES

Andrea, Legal Assistant

Andrea has collected a variety of work experience, from running restaurants, to managing inventory for construction companies and working in outside sales. Her career has given her the opportunity to travel throughout New England and the east coast. More recently, Andrea worked in medical transcription and Bankruptcy law before joining the Smith Elliot Smith & Garmey team.


Beth, Legal Assistant

Beth graduated from the University of Maine in 2004 with a Bachelor's degree in Business Management. After working in Real Estate law for another law firm, Beth has now joined the litigation team of Smith Elliott Smith & Garmey. In her spare time, Beth enjoys traveling, dancing, reading and being a life long learner.


Charlene, Bookkeeper

After being a cosmetologist for ten years, Charlene decided to change her career. In 1978 Charlene started working at Smith Elliott Smith & Garmey as a receptionist and has since worked in various capacities: from legal assistant to computer work, to bookeeper.


Chris, Legal Assistant

Chris attended Casco Bay College where she received her Associate's Degree. She worked as a receptionist for a local law firm before joining Smith Elliott Smith & Garmey. When she is not at work, Chris finds time to shop.


Christiane, Paralegal

Christiane is a native New Yorker who recently relocated to Maine from Philadelphia. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia in 1996 and Widener University School of Law in Wilmington, Delaware in 1999. After law school, Christiane spent 2 years in Anchorage, Alaska working on the ongoing Exxon Valdez Oil Spill litigation before moving back to Pennsylvania to practice law. As an associate attorney, she worked in the environmental and toxic tort department of a large insurance defense firm in Philadelphia. As a paralegal in the Portland office of Smith Elliot Smith & Garmey, Christiane handles personal injury, medical malpractice and products liability cases.

Dianne, Legal Assistant

A Rhode Island native, Dianne now calls Maine her home. Her family is very important to her. Dianne made the deliberate decision to postpone her professional career until her children were grown. Dianne has accumulated over seventeen years of legal assistant experience. In her spare time Dianne enjoys singing and playing golf.


Donna, Office Assistant

Donna graduated from Watertown High School in Watertown, Massachusetts. Before winding up at Smith, Elliott, Smith & Garmey, Donna collected a series of various work experiences. Over the course of several years, Donna managed to raise a family and work as an assistant and office manager at a dentistís office. Later she worked as a receptionist for a classical radio station and handled the stationís special events. When she moved to Maine, Donna took a job at a local newspaper company as the assistant to the circulation manager. Outside of work she enjoys spending her free time exploring Maine, collecting lighthouses, spending time with her granddaughter Emily and going to the beach.


Judy, Paralegal

Judy graduated from Husson College in 1978 and promptly accepted a job as a legal assistant with Smith Elliott Smith & Garmey. She is proud to have worked for the firm for over twenty-five years. When she is not at work, you can find Judy spending time with her children.


Julianne, Legal Assistant

Julianne grew up in Maine and after graduating from Greenville High School she went on to study at Wellesley College. She joined Smith Elliott Smith & Garmey in July of 2001 and brings more than ten years of litigation and legal transaction experience with her. Julianne worked for a law firm in Pawtucket, RI for six years until she moved to Florida. In Florida, Julianne was a personal injury legal assistant. Outside of work Julianne enjoys hiking, camping, cooking and spending time at Moosehead Lake. She is also an avid baseball fan.


Julie, Legal Assistant

Julie brings sixteen years of legal experience to Smith Elliott Smith & Garmey, working as a legal assistant at two firms in Sanford, Maine before joining our firm. In her spare time, Julie volunteers as a "kid worker" for Caring Unlimited, York County's Domestic Violence agency. When not at work, Julie most enjoys her time with her husband and family, especially her granddaughter, Taylor.


Linda, Paralegal

A graduate of Westbrook College, Linda also completed the two-year program at the University of Southern Maine with a certificate in paralegal studies and she has over 20 years of experience in the legal field. Linda enjoys collecting antiques, especially glass and open salts.


Lynn, Legal Nurse Consultant

Lynn earned an Associate's Degree in Paralegal Studies from Andover where she graduated at the top of her class. She received certification from the National Association of Legal Assistants in 1998. Lynn ended a twenty-four year nursing career as a registered nurse to join the Smith Elliott Smith & Garmey legal team. When she was a nurse, Lynn specialized in obstetrics, intensive care units and emergency room medicine. In her current consultant position she is able to contribute both her medical knowledge and nursing experience. As a result, Lynn has become in invaluable part of the medical malpractice team.


Mary, Probate Paralegal

Mary graduated from Biddeford High School and attended courses at USM on property management, probate administration and seminars on estate administration and business writing. Before joining Smith Elliott Smith & Garmey, Mary spent ten years as a bookkeeper and three years as a legal secretary. Mary enjoys reading, gardening, spending time with her grandchildren and following their activities.


Melissa G., Legal Assistant

Melissa graduated from Thornton Academy and attended Providence College, the University of Southern Maine and Andover College. When she is not at work, Melissa enjoys playing the piano, rubber stamping, crafting, reading, collecting piggy banks and amateur dog training.


Melissa R., Paralegal

Melissa has over 20 years experience working in various office environments. After staying home for a few years to raise her son, Melissa decided to re-enter the work-force in the legal industry. She currently holds a BS in Business Administration and a Certificate in Paralegal Studies. Melissa serves on the Board of the Boy Singers of Maine where her son sings with the Concert Choir. In her spare time Melissa is either reading, knitting, crocheting or exercising. She is also an animal lover with an intense passion for her two dachshunds.


Nohea, Legal Assistant

Nohea was born and reared on the Island of Maui, Hawaii. She graduated from Honolulu Business College and worked as a legal assistant with a large firm in Honolulu, Hawaii before crossing the Pacific Ocean to live and work in Guam, Virginia and Massachusetts. Having moved to Portland and joining Smith Elliott Smith & Garmey, Nohea now calls Maine home.


Paula, Legal Assistant

Paula is a veteran with Smith Elliott Smith & Garmey, having worked for the firm since 1978. She graduated from Casco Bay College in 1978 with an Associate's Degree as an Administrative Assistant. Paula is an active member of NALS (an association for legal professionals). Through NALS, Paula achieved the designation of Certified Professional Legal Secretary in 1996.


Rosalie, Office Assistant

Rosalie was born in Massachusetts and graduated from Peabody High School. She moved to Maine over 34 years ago. She has done many things during her lifetime, but one of her biggest accomplishments was raising her five children. When her youngest child was four Rosalie began working. She was a school bus driver for ten years, a teacherís aid and a Certified Nurseís Assistant (CNA). Currently Rosalie occupies a unique niche at Smith Elliott Smith & Garmey working both as a receptionist and as an assistant to the bookkeeper. When Rosalie is not working, she loves dancing, traveling, bicycling and hiking.


Stephanie, Network Administrator

Stephanie graduated from Maine Maritime Academy magna cum laude with a B.S. in Oceanography. After joining Smith Elliott Smith & Garmey as a legal assistant in 1999 and earning her Paralegal Diploma and CLA certification in 2001, Stephanie changed career paths to become our network administrator in early 2005. Outside of work, Stephanie enjoys spending her time race-walking, hiking and snow shoeing..


Suzanne, Bookkeeper

Suzanne was born and raised in Portland and recently returned to Maine following a 12 year absence. After graduating from the University of Southern Maine, Suzanne gained 25 years' experience in commercial lines insurance management, holds a broker's license in the state of Maine and is a Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC). Suzanne and her husband share three children and have two grandchildren. In her spare time, Suzanne enjoys painting, gardening, beachcombing and outdoor winter sports.


Sybil, Legal Assistant

Sybil has worked as a legal assistant since 1987. Active in community service, Sybil enjoys working with teens. During her free time Sybil enjoys gardening, spending time outdoors and with her husband and three children.
